College Sports Betting in Maine
Maine permits college sports betting, but with one important limitation: no player props on any Maine-based college team or athlete. You can still bet game outcomes — spreads, moneylines, totals — on the University of Maine Black Bears.
What's Allowed on Maine College Teams
This prop ban is written into LD 585 to protect student-athletes from being individually targeted by bettors and harassment.
The Maine Black Bears
The University of Maine Black Bears compete in Hockey East (men's hockey), the America East Conference (basketball, baseball, and most Olympic sports), and the Coastal Athletic Association (football, FCS level). Hockey is the marquee program — Alfond Arena routinely sells out for big Hockey East matchups.
Markets for Out-of-State College Teams
For non-Maine college teams, the full Caesars and DraftKings menus apply — including player props, alt lines, and Same Game Parlays. March Madness, College Football Playoff, and conference championship futures all carry deep markets at both Maine books.
What's Always Off-Limits
- Player props on Maine college athletes (any sport).
- Any wagers on high school, youth, or non-collegiate amateur events.
- Eprops or "exotic" Maine-team markets disguised as team-level (e.g. "Maine player to score first").
Top College Bet Types
- Point spreads — the standard market in NCAAF and NCAAB.
- Totals — pace differentials in college are far wider than the NBA.
- Futures — preseason CFP odds and March Madness brackets.
